Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

class action

Is it possible a separate party to sue a 'class' of a class action suit? My actual question is, could family members of people who fought in the Civil war to end slavery sue another 'class' that successfully sued a company for benefiting from slavery? Since the slaves obviously benefitted from the war heros successs at ending slavery, what repercussions would they have against the people they freed?
