Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

My mother had a tooth extraction and one dental implant which took around 90 minutes. During the procedure her neck was placed in an extention of 60 degrees and turned to the right. She suffered spinal cord syndrome. This was a dibilitating spinal cord injury requiring over six weeks of hospitalization. She was an active person who could walk, drive and speak clearly prior to this dentist visit. She needs more rehab but insurance has run out. Is this a case of a really bad dentist or bad luck? I guess I am feeling upset because this dentist had the nerve to mail a bill for his services.

This may very well be a case of professional negligence. An attorney would need to interview any witnesses, obtain all of the records and have a dental professional review everything in order to obtain a professional opinion whether the dentist involved failed to meet the applicabel professional standards and caused harm to your mother. These matters can be very expensive, but you should definitley consult with an attorney.

How awful! A simple tooth extraction and implant that had such effects! I hope that she is doing better.

It sounds to me as if this may be the case of a dentist who failed to treat your mother properly.

The records need to be reviewed to determine exactly what happened and to confirm whether the dentist failed to meet the appropriate standard of care. If he did, then you have a cause of action. If he did not, then this was a matter of bad luck.

Please feel free to contact me.
