Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I own a condo in Chicago. I am in Unit 411 and unit 211 had minor water damage to their washer/dryer closet as a result of a leak from a fitting from my washer to the water source. This leak was minor and drops that I was not aware of and occurred over a long period of time. Am I liable to the unit 211 owner for the costs of their damage or is there some subrogation laws or such that include these in "common damages" etc. Also, is the association responsible to explain how the fitting is to be connected to prevent leakage. Thanks.

Hello. In my opinion you will be liable for the minor damage in unit 211. As I see it, the association will not be responsible to explain how the fitting is to be connected since this is a condominium. In the future, you may want to apply for flood insurance depending upon the costs.
