If the "main" is a common element the association should be responsible, and it should be an insurance claim. If the "main" is really an extension into your unit, it may NOT be a common element and then you may be responsible for it, although you may have an insurance claim on your HO policy for damages to the unit and personalty. This may be a matter of having to read the declaration and condo survey. If the association has its own attorney, have you tried calling him/her?
