Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Our landlord has filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy and this has been a very confusing and shady situation with this landlord. We have withheld 4 months of rent because there has been no communication on his end after multiple attempts from us to establish whether he is still the landlord. Do we have any legal rights as of now as our landlord going through chapter 7 bankruptcy? Do we pay the trustee or can we hold the rent until this matter is resolved?

Your obligations do not change unless you receive a court order or formal notice that the property has changed hands. Common sense dictates that if there is a new owner, the new owner would contact you for rent. Check the bankruptcy case online.
