Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Real Estate

My boyfirend and I bought a house together. The deed is a joint tenancy with right of survivorship. We want to sell the home. I paid the downpayment. Can he get any of my downpayment?

Re: Real Estate

If you can come to an agreement with him regarding the division of proceeds, then you may be able to receive the additional funds you have put into the property. If not, you may need to file a partition action. This approach will take time, however, so your best bet is to get an agreement, in writing, before the property is sold.
