Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I have been served a summons for foreclosure which I fully intend to contest. I have been sick for a week and yesterday I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I have a doctors note stating I could not address this for at least four weeks. How do I petition the court for additional time to file answer?

If you don't hire an attorney, which I strongly recommend, you will have to find out when the appearance and answer were due and, if not yet due, file them. If overdue you will have to file a motion to vacate any defaults and to file same. There are a lot of technicalities but you may find the court clerks to be helpful. A doctor's note really doesn't do much if anything.
