Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

tenants rights

Is there contract suitable for renters of homes or apartments? As a first time renter in 30 years we are asked to sign a residential rental agreement which we do not agree to some of the stipulations. The landlord states not to worry about this contract but we must sign. I understand their rights, we have ours too?

We have lived here 2 weeks and the landlady has contacted us 10 or more times and has been here 3 or more now. Today a pnone call requesting a signed contract. An attorney wrote the contract for her brother which she's using for this house. He has apartments not a house. There's a lot of double talk in this contract and it looks as if they will do all they can to keep a security deposit. Thank You

Re: tenants rights

Any contract is negotiable, though your landlord might not agree to the terms you want. As far as "not worrying about" the agreement, if you sign it, you are bound by the terms. If there is something you want changed, request the specific changes.
