Legal Question in Social Security Law in Illinois

My father passed away six years ago, when I was eleven years old. I noticed Social Security was sending letters with my name addressed to them. But my Mother never allowed me to open them. I'm almost positive the letters enclose money for me, but my Mom is taking it. Am I entitled to the money? I'm obligated to pay for college by myself, and if that is MY money, that would really help me out.

What do you mean "with my name addressed to them"? Do you mean to you at their address, or what? Your BEST option here is to find out where the nearest Social Security Office is and go there, and ask the questions and find out what benefits are being paid out! Then you will have the info and can decide how to approach your mom. PS I hope you have a social security # since it was your parents' legal responsibility to get one for you when you were young.
