Legal Question in Social Security Law in Illinois

My son gets survivors benefits for social security, but now that he is ninteen years old social security wants him to go to school full time for twenty hours to keep his check. He was going to school full time at Truman College, but social security said that the full time hours that he was going was not good enough, even though Truman college said it was consider full time, and even though they gave him two checks, now they will not give him the other four checks for going to school the rest of the time.

1 Answer from Attorneys

He should go to the Social Security office nearest by and talk to someone. If that doesn't resolve the matter, the school should have a financial aid officer who may be knowledgeable. If that doesn't help, an attorney who is familiar with social security benefits may be helpful. Nice to see a parent fighting to make sure their child is getting as much education as possible.
