Legal Question in Tax Law in Illinois

We owe IRS low 5 figures as back tax. We are a joint filer. I do not have money but my wife does. But she does not pay. Can I tell IRS my wife's bank account and collect? I failed to have my wife understand our obligation.

Consider filing separately in the future. Your situation requires your wife's cooperation to resolve on favorable terms. If you don't ask IRS for a payment plan, IRS will enforce collection against you, against her and against your joint assets and income. Which spouse is failing to pay his or her taxes as they accrue? In a marriage, income and assets are family income and assets. Work it out between the two of you or you will suffer the unpredictable consequences of having the taxing authorities enforce collection.
