Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

Careless Driving & Speeding

I am an Illinois resident and received a ticket for speeding and careless driving in Kentucky over the weekend. I was going 89 in a 55 mph zone. Will this charge show up on my Illinois driving record? Is careless driving in KY the same as reckless driving in IL? What is the typical penalty for this offense? Is there any chance I can get supervision since I have a clean driving record? Do I need to attend the court date in Louisville & should I hire an attorney?

Re: Careless Driving & Speeding

You must take care of any tickets in Kentucky. If you fail to do so, or fail to pay any fines and costs, your Illinois license can be suspended as a result. I would contact an attorney in the area where you were pulled over. That attorney can advise you of the consequences of a careless and reckelss charge in Kentucky, and may also be able to represent you so as to avoid a conviction and not have to appear in Court in person. Good luck.
