This needs more facts, but if you were never adopted by your biological father, Illinois law says you are the heir of your mother, not him, and if she's passed your opportunity to inherit from her may have been lost.. Dependent on other factors you may be entitled to a child's award from his estate, however. Best to call the bar association in your area for a pro bonoa referral who can more effectively go over the situation with you.
