legatee compared to heir

Explain the difference to me of a single person specifically named as ''legatee'' and all others referred to as heirs? Where does ''legatee'' fall as in pertains to... sons, daughters, exectutor, husband, legatee.... etc.

Legatees are the persons named as beneficiaries in a Will. Heirs are the persons who would receive from the decedent's intestate estate if there was no Will.
