Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

do it yourself probate in cook county, illinois

hi all, i am on ssi disability. i would like to start probate myself without an attorney for the obvious reason that i probably cannot afford one. i really need a step by step guide for who to contact, forms, what to expect in terms of time, fees, etc. any advice is welcome. i will be making myself administrator. my brother has the estate and he is wealthy, and otherwise making himself kind of disagreeable in terms of sharing my father's estate. we are the only two inheritors. i have a possible contingency fee lawyer but if the procedure is pretty easy, one person online from a government office said, ''Why not do it yourself?'' should i expect a more difficult time if i am a mental disability ssi recipient? am i being foolish? let me know what you think! thankx

There's an old saying that a physician who treats himself has a fool for a patient. My livelyhood is walking people through the ropes, but you may also find help for free in the local court system library, etc.
