Legal Question in Criminal Law in India

My mother filed FIR on the missing case of my sister in oct 2009, which later turned out to be a murder case of my sister by her boyfriend. Now in 2013 when am trying to find the FIR status online it is showing as "Action dropped" and the status of the case is closed. Could someone please tell me what does action dropped means as neither we have any information from the police or court regarding any hearings. As my mother was not called for any proceedings. kindly suggest.

"Action dropped" implies that the party(ies) who filed the case, have consented to stop proceedings in the matter. It is possible that somebody has fraudulently given a letter to the Police on your behalf to close the case. If you have ample evidence to prove that it is a case of murder, you should approach the Police Station where you lodged the case, producing a copy of the FIR and the evidence in the matter, and asking the Chief Inspector to reopen the case for hearing.

You may also check in the court of concerned Magistrate about closure report or such other report filed by police.

Depending upon nature of information, you may decide further line of action in the matter.
