Legal Question in Civil Litigation in India

Kindly advice me as to the position of a nominee in a Bank account or deposit and with a post office account. The deceased who was a bachelor named an outsider as a nominee. Payment was made by the Post Office to the nominee, despite objections from one of the heirs. The deceased had brothers and a sister. The Post office claims that the payment was made as per rules. However, they have not quoted the rule or the act, under which the payment was made.
