Whether a top up made at the time of renewal of a mediclaim policy is new one?
I insured myself for mediclaim with new india assurance co.since 2003.On 2009 I have not availed any clao I have added 1 lakh to my exsisting insured amount fo 65 thosands.For the past five years upto 09 i hav not availed any claim.After 6months form the renewal I had a heart attack.Insurance co. settled for 65 thousands only.It says the enchanced amount for 1 lakh will be treated as new policy.Moreover when the policy renewed on 2009 loading was made for pre existing disecese H pp and diabetus for an amount of 1704. Pl.clarify.

this is a malpractise. you may approach the consumer court for the total claim.
