stamp duty
I had purchased aflat of 460 sq. ft.carpet area on august 1976. whether it attracts any stamp duty & if yes, how much. can I pay it direct. agents are asking fantastic charges.

There was no stamp duty payable on sale/purchase of flat upto 09.12.1985. The stamp duty payable was very nominal upto that date. On 10.12.1985 there was a amendment and stamp duty rates for residential flats and the stamp duty increased drastically. As your agreement was in 1976, you need not worry. Just take advantage of the amnesty scheme. If you personally cannot go to submit your documents , contact an advocate who can do the same.
