Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

I have a credit card account that has been turned over to a law office for late payment, due to hard financial times. Working with my bank is no longer an option. The person on the phone, not a lawyer, suggested that I try to get a loan from my credit union to pay them. They turned me down. When asked how quickly I could pay it back ($5000.00+/-), I said 30 months or so. The person on the phone didn't think that would be acceptable. Before I call them again, what should I do? I know I am responsible for the debt and I want to do the right thing, but I simply can't pay it all at once. If I could, I would not have gotten behind in the first place.

Make an appointment with the credit card company's lawyer who is handling the case and see what arrangements can be worked out with him or her.
