Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

Debt Collection

I've been contacted by a collection company demanding payment of $13,406.08 on a second home improvement mortgage from my first marriage that ended in divorce in Dec. 1997. It was my understanding that the proceeds from the sale of the marital home, that was ordered sold as a part of the divorce decree, was used to satisfy that debt. The collection agency says they have a judgement from 1998 that I have never seen. My ex-wife received all of the net proceeds from the sale of the home. What is my recourse now?

Re: Debt Collection

Not enough facts to be sure but get yourself to a lawyer. When you call the lawyer, make sure that you have a copy of your divorce decree, and a copy of the 1998 civil judgment.
