Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

I found out I had a court case by accident. I have not been properly served with notice of claim. I wrote the court for a continuance because it was during my last week of work before being laid off - it was granted. A bench hearing is next week for unpaid doctor bills going back 5yrs. I will be collecting unemployment of $102/wk.....my rent is $610/mo. I own a 2004 Trailblazer - the only property that I have. Do I show up with proof of my financial state? Can it be dismissed for failure to serve notice? Do I ask for proof of debt verification at the hearing? I have received nothing in writing except the continuance date and time from the court.

Thank you.

You're not going to receive anything more in writing. The debt collector has to prove the debt at the hearing. You don't have to show proof of your financial situation until the debt collector tries to collect the debt, which would be the next hearing. Perhaps you should try to contact the attorney and try to make arrangements to pay off the debt by way of a plan.
