Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

grand theft auto

can a dealership file a grand theft auto charge against you if you moved out of the state where the vehicle was financed? That is the payments have not been made, and it is not financialy possible to drive the vehicle back.

Re: grand theft auto

This question has been rejected three times because the issue is properly in Indiana, not Washington. Just because you and the car are here, does not make it a WA problem.

You bought the car there, and the rules in Indiana control and I am not licensed there and cannot speak to their laws.

If you cannot pay for the car, turn it in. If you cannot take it back to Indiana, then call them and ask where you can turn it in here.

A similar dealership perhaps?

If there is a collector threatening to file "Grand Theft" charges, I rather doubt that Indiana is going to pay to extradite you back there to face charges. Threatening to do something they cannot do can be a violation of the federal fair debt collection practices act.

Look. I am sorry you are in this situation and there appears to be no attorneys from Indiana on this Board.

Call the county Bar in the county where you bought the car and ask for a referral.

Hope this helps. Powell
