Motorcycle stolen towing company charging $2,000 in fees

I had a motorcycle stolen and the thief was in a accident on it. The police told me that I would recieve a letter letting me know when the ''hold''was released off of it and I could pick it up. After two months of calling the police department and receiving the same answer..''You will be notified by certified letter.'' I got a letter in January from some towing company stating I owe them 2,000 dollars or they will be selling my bike next week.... I tried calling them to see what was going on and why I owed so much and they say they have the vehicle down as abandoned and are saying that I owe them for all the storage fee's and towing for 3 months even though I was never told where it was being held or given anything telling me I could pick it up. Any help?

Contact the officer who originally took your statement and see if he can call and get your motorcycle out. You need to move on this asap, as they have to hold your vehicle for so long and then they can sell it for storage fees.

If you have problems with the officer helping, try filing a complaint with the department since you were never properly informed. If that doesn't work, then you need to hire an attorney to file a motion with the court to get your vehicle back or you can always pay the storage fees.
