Legal Question in Elder Law in Indiana

Medicaid and tithing

My 80 year old mom has tithed her whole life. In fact, she gives more than 10% of her income to church and charities even though she is of middle income. If she has to go to a nursing home, she will not have enough to pay for 5 years of nursing home care. She probably would only have enough money for a year or two and would want to get on Medicaid. In that case what will happen? Would she be ''put out'' of the home? Would her kids be held liable for her bills if she is not put out?
