Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

College Expenses

My daughter will be heading to college in 2008. My question is, I make more money than my ex. He has paid nothing for any of her schooling always stating that, ''That is what support is for.'' He had my support lowered at one point and I had never went back to raise is as I didn't have the money to go back to court. Now that I make more than he does and I really don't want him know the amount, can I get him to help pay for the college expenses? Also he takes her off his taxes. If he doesnt contribute to her college, can I claim her?

Re: College Expenses

You will need to take him back to court to get the college expenses. However, you may be too early for that as the child has not been accepted to school, you do not know the scholl expenses, and financial aid for the child.

I suggest reading the Indiana Child support Guidelines. They are online here: http://www.in.gov/judiciary/rules/child_support/index.html

The tax issue depends on what the divorce decree says.
