Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

how long to wait after marriage before name change

Hello :) My fiance and I are planning on getting married sometime this summer, but I don't want to change my name until I finish college (3 years down the road). Is it possible to do that? If not, is it OK if I keep my maiden name just for University records until some time has passed? Thanks for your time!

Yes. You can keep your maiden name.

Later, if you choose to change it, you can do that by filing a Petition for Name Change with the court in the county in which you live.
