Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Is it possible to request a different guardian ad litem appointed to our case. This has all been such a burden for us and this guy is so "for" the other grandparent who lives 3 hours away and is blind. The courts have agreed w/g.a.l. to allow our 3 year old granddaughter to stay with him for up to 7 days in a month even though he is legally blind and lives alone nor does he have any outside help. When we asked that someone be present when she is there it was rejected by the g.a.l. and the court. we feel so helpless. Our lawyer said once the court has appointed a g.a.l. it's virtually impossible to get rid of them. Is this true!?!

Absent wrongdoing or failure to do the things that a GAL should do, yes it is very difficult to get rid of a guardian ad litem.
