Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

My son's father hasnt been in his life at all, and i have never taken him to court for any child support because i have always been finacially able to take care of my son on my own. I, now, am In a finacial hardship and need some child support. My son is now 12 years old, and has never met him, if I take him to court for support can he get visitation? I don't want my son around him, he's an unfit father and I don't want my son getting upset because his father now has 2 other kids and never included him in anything.

He can always request visitation, whether paying support or not. Given these facts, the court will not just send him there for weekends, but would probably involve a counselor, have a phase in period with short non-overnight visits, to get him accustomed to his father. It would be your job as a mother to help facilitate this, unless he actively abuses children,
