Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Telephone Listing Under A Deceased Name

My father died in 1991 and his widow later married a man with a different last name. It was her third marriage and they have since divorced. There is a current telephone listing in the local directory in my father's name, including his professional title of medical doctor (MD). This woman is not an MD and I'm concerned that she is misrepresenting herself in an attempt to cling to my father's good name. Is there anything I can do to stop her? We are not on speaking terms. Thank you in advance.

Re: Telephone Listing Under A Deceased Name

There is really nothing you can do to prevent your fathers widow from hanging on to his name (provided her purpose is not illegal). Whats more, she can keep his name as her own, even if she remarried.

If you are worried about actual fraud, you might consider contacting the State of Illinois Consumer Fraud Bureau of the Attorney Generals Office [(217) 782-9021], but then again, you have no evidence of wrongdoing. You could perhaps contact the state Department of Professional Regulation [(217) 785-0800] [i.e., the folks that regulate doctors] and ask them for advice or assistance.

Theres more to consider. If you dont have a lawyer, think about it. A personal attorney-client relation would allow you to provide more info, ask more questions, and receive more help.
