Unfit mother

We are considering to fight for full custody of my child because we suspect the mother to unfit. What does the courts consider unfit?

Re: Unfit mother

There is no exact standard to cite. It all is completely dependent on the facts of your case.

Unfitness generally means a parent is unable to competently serve in the parental role for whatever reason.

It has to be something serious, like a drug or alcohol problem, homelessness, mental illness, abuse or serious neglect.

Getting a modification of custody is tough, but it can be done. Prepare for an expensive, heart-wrenching fight, though.

Best of luck to you. Sounds like a tough situation.
