Collecting from someone you signed a loan for

I met someone on the internet in March of 2003. This person was wanting to attend a computer training school in Carmel, Indiana. The person called me repeatedly, crying and begging, for me to sign the loan so they could attend. I signed the loan under the condition that they would sign a promissory note, which I drafted, he signed, and had notarized. Since that time, he has not paid one cent, even left school without notifying me, and now I am stuck with the bill. I wrote a letter to the school and they refunded all but $8000 of the original $16,000 loan. However, they are looking to me for the $8000 due. I need to ascertain how I can collect this money from him legally, even sue if necessary. I was also unsure if I would file the suit in Tennessee where I am OR in Indiana where he and the school are located.

You would sue this person in Indiana; since this is, where this person resides and presumed has assets in. You should employ an attorney to handle this case and he would need to see all papers involved.
