Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Indiana

shopping lifting and civial suit

We live in Indianapolis. My daughters were caught shoplifting in a clothing store; one had $20.00 and the other had $30.00 worth of merchandise... now an out of state law firm is asking for $300.00 each daughter; first offense, and going through diversion program. can the store really sue us..the merchandize was seized in good condition even before they were taken to juvenile center.

Re: shopping lifting and civial suit

It is very unclear what is your daughters' situation. Juvenile court is the State of Indiana proceeding on a criminal matter against the girls and is not the store filing a civil suit. Two separate things. Nothing really prevents the store from filing a civil lawsuit although they may not get very far. Get a lawyer.
