Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Indiana

slander

A person has been slandering our family and saying horrible things about our children. This has been going on for some time and we can no longer sit by and let her keep doing it. What rights do we have to protect our family? My daughter is getting older and I'm afraid it is going to start causing her trouble. This is ruining our reputation and the accusations are totaly false. How can we get her to stop without causing a huge public scene or court case?? Thanks for any help

Re: slander

Sometimes the only thing that can be done is to file a lawsuit. That typically gets the attention of those making slanderous remarks and serves to show friends and others that you take your reputation serious and it bolsters your assertion that the tales are lies. My advice: Hire a lawyer to write a "cease and desist" letter. If that does not work, have him/her file a lawsuit.
