Copy right

I write poetry and literature that i like to share with others. Do i have to copyright my work, or is it automatically protected?

Copyright arises at the moment when you put pen to paper; registration is required in order to bring an action for copyright infringement in federal court. The main benefit to timely registration is that the remedies are much better for the creator of a work when the infringement occurs subsequent to registration. It is no longer necessary, but still advisable, to put a copyright notice on your work when you provide it to any other person.
