Legal Question in Personal Injury in Indiana

Auto Accident that has taken very long to settle with the insurance company.

This lawsuit has been pending for 7 years is this normal? I asked for a copy of my file from my lawyer, it seems that my lawyer has taken little or no action in the 7 years to settle this case, is there anything I can do about this to speed up the case? My lawyer has also stated that he wanted to wait to settle till I was out of college so I would not waste the money, is this legal or ethical for him to do?

Re: Auto Accident that has taken very long to settle with the insurance company.

Depending on where the suit is filed and the series of events in the case, seven years of waiting is possible. Fortunately, most cases do not take that long, but it can happen. If you are concerned about the status of your case, contact your attorney and request a "status conference" and voice your concerns. The firm I am with makes it a practice to send the client copies of all correspondence and filings in the case as they are sent and received. You might make a request that the same procedure be taken with your file so that you know what is happening with the suit. Lori Jolly
