Legal Question in Personal Injury in Indiana

Is a lawyer necessary for a hearing where I am being judged for Allowing an Unlicensed Individual to Operate a Vehicle? I allowed my husband to drive, who is from mexico, when we were on our way to an immigration court, but I do not know if the courts know he is my husband or if I should say he is when in court. The day before we had purchased a standard car, which I do not know how to drive. The car we initially were going to take broke down so we had to take that one, which is why I let him drive because he does know how to drive standard. I do not know what kind of evidence to take that would help, or what to say, or if I absolutely need to get a lawyer. Please help.
