Legal Question in Product Liability in Indiana

I have a computer repair business and damaged a laptop during the process of trying to repair it. I cannot find the replacement part to fix it and offered to compensate the owner to replace the laptop. The laptop is 2 1/2 years old and I have attempted to determine the fair market value to replace it, minus the previously agreed to repair charge. The owner has rejected my offer and threatens to take me to court. What are my legal responsabilites?

If you performed a backup,it is the value of the computer plus the loss of use until a new computer is in use. If there is no backup you have to deal with the value of content also.
