Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

A home in Indiana is in my name, as is the mortgage loan. Family members reside there and pay the mortgage. My primary residence is in IL, but I cannot claim any real estate tax deductions because of the Indiana property. If I transfer the Indiana property to my relative through a quit claim, can I claim tax exemptions on my house in IL?

That should solve your problem but before you go ahead, you should check with your county office in Illinois that handles exemptions to make sure that you don’t have any other issues which would prevent you from claiming tax exemptions in Illinois.
