Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

When moving into our home 10 years ago we were told we were on sewer by our mortgage company. We've also been been paying sewer on water bill this entire time. About a year or two into living here we had to have septic tank that's in our back yard pumped out..but thought it had probably been there a while . Here about a week ago due to stuff backing up into our house for weeks even poop coming up drains filling tub up we had it pumped again. I bad the guys look for sewer hookup after 20 minutes they found no sewer hook up not even a mainline near house...Our septic is already full again and was told field bed has been shot for some time and septic tank wasn't up to code at all. I feel like we were scammed and stuck in bad situation. If we even try to get sewer off bill our house can be condemned the worker told us or if we try to get the money back they'll push back have tried twice to get them to come out to do a test to see if we are on sewer and they never call back (water department). I was told to get legal advice before anything. What are my options.

You don't have too many options. It was your obligation at time of purchase to do an inspection and verify the sewer hookup. Better get hooked up and shut down the septic system. You have to pay attention to the details.
