Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Indiana

estate/divorce

My rich uncle in Michigan is putting my name on his house and bank accounts. Will I have to pay inheritance tax? How can I protect this money in case I get a divorce?

Re: estate/divorce

I have no idea about Michigan inheritance taxes but in Indiana it is the estate that pays the inheritance tax. Check with the lawyer in Michigan handling the estate.

You do not say if you are currently married, but assuming that you are then you need to get a post-nuptial agreement. For more information on this, start with my article: http://haslerlaw2.blogspot.com/2008/01/post-nuptial-agreements.html
