Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Indiana

Inheritance entitlement

Is a married partner entitled to 50% of the inheritance given to a spouse? My wife received a parent inheritance she feels is hers to spend freely. I feel that as her husband I am entitled to be involved in decisions of spending and investment. I will receive an inheritance in the (hopefully distant) future from my parents, and I don't want to find out years from now that I must legally split it with my wife after she has blown her inheritance earlier. We both have children from previous marriages, which clouds the issue of their inheritance.

Re: Inheritance entitlement

No, she can spend that however she wants. If you were getting divorced that money might be in the marital pot. If you want to protect your future inheritance, then I suggest that you think about a post-nuptial agreement or speak with an estate planning attorney.
