Do I need to Probate Mom's will?

My mother only has a few pieces of furniture and personal belongings and less then $500 in her checking account. Is it necessary to probate the will?

The will should be probated no matter the size of the estate. When the estate is too small to justify administration of the estate, the will is presented to the Court with a petition to spread the will of record and the process is one of verification that the will was properly executed. Unless the law changes July 1, 2001, there is no court filing fee to spread the will of record.
