How would I stop debt collectors from taking money from my checking account?

If you owe the money and there's a judgment they can garnish your account. As often happens, people give the creditor permission to debit their account and then forget they did it-in that case, your account can be debited. Have you considered shutting down your checking account and opening another down the street?
