Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Iowa

i have a daughter 21 years of age. she and her boyfriend purchased a truck in nov 09. the title is listed as her name or his name. the loan at the bank is her name or his name. they are no longer together. he did not have a job at the time nor has he had since. she has made payments for the plates, and monthly since then. he has the truck. what rights does she have with the "or" on the title and on the loan to the truck? she does not have a set of keys for the truck and he does not want to give her the keys. the loan is currently for approx 12,000.00

Unfortunately debts last longer than relationships. She can stop making the payments, let the truck be repoed and she's still going to be on the hook for the debt and will likely be sued. All that could take a couple years to play out. Maybe she should hire an attorney to see if they can get the truck back.
