Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa

In civil matters in the state of Iowa, how does one know if they "participated" in the lawsuit? An Iowa bank said I participated in the lawsuit but all I did was file a Special Appearance.

We do not have special appearances to contest jurisdiction in this state and have not had them since 1987. All preanswer jurisdictional challenges must be made by motion per Iowa R. Civ. P. 1.435(1). It may be that the bank is arguing that you participated by said erroneous filing.

A special appearance allowed a person to contest jurisdiction without submitting to it.
