can a creditor put a lien on my wifes home for one of my debts?

A creditor cannot file any lien for any reason, unless the creditor has filed a lawsuit and obtained a judgment against you - and then only if your name is on the property. If a collection agency is threatening to do this, it is in violation of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act - you can sue for damages and attorney fees.....
