Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

I have an adult age daughter who is receiving SSI benefits. While she was a minor I paid child support for her and she did not start receiving the SSI benefits until she became an adult. For the past number of years her mother and I have had an agreement where I pay $250 a month to help supplement her care. I can no longer afford to pay this amount. Am I legally obligated to pay this. The agreement has not ever been in writing. It was not court ordered.

If there's no court order you are not obliged to pay anything. However you may be obligated to provide support even though she is above the age of 18 under Iowa Code section 598.1(9)
