Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa

A woman helped clean up/paint to help pass inspection so that she could have a chance to move in with leased housing. She failed to get an extension and was denied assistance. I still offered my assistance with helping her get assistance from other resources also accepting less rent and pd for phone and different items that she lost in her last move. She was told that she had to have utilities in her name before moving in. She moved in any way. She is now saying she has people who will be putting leans on my home for work that I never wanted. I did pay her to pay one of her friends to paint. Can I turn off utilities since she was supposed to get those turned on..no lease yet either. Can they put a lean on my house?

What you describe seems like it could be a scheme to get free rent and now money from you. It is doubtful you would have to pay for any work you did not authorize. I would suggest you make an appointment with your local Legal Aid office to get proper legal advice and for the Legal Aid lawyer to review any paperwork you have.
