Legal Question in Traffic Law in Iowa

accident on private property

a friend of my son who is 16 let him use a moped that was at his friends house. my sone has a valid Iowa intermediate license. when he pulled in the friends driveway the moped would not stop, don't know if the brakes worked or if he did not hit the lever. his friend had his car door open and my son hit it damaging it and the quarter panel $1550 the car is fully insured but the fater refuses to turn into his insurance because he has had too many claims. no police report was filed and now the father is saying if we don't pay the entire bill for fixing the car he will not only sue us but our son could lose his license. what are our options and can he have my sons license taken due to this

Re: accident on private property

He can and likely will sue of you make no arrangements to pay or your son doesn't clear out his piggy bank and pay for the damage he caused. I doubt your son could lose his license on these facts. Your options are three-you pay for the damage, your son pays for the damage, or you get sued.
